Police ID woman found at New London pier, cause of death still unknown

New London — The cause of death for a woman who was found Wednesday morning underneath a pier is “pending further study”, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Friday.

Police identified the woman Friday as 29-year-old Katie Valvo. Her last known address was Otis, Mass.

The results of toxicology tests will take weeks to be known, the medical examiner said.

Valvo’s body was discovered around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday when someone walked in to police headquarters to report the death.

Police are investigating what the woman was doing prior to her death. The investigation into her death remains open, police said.
